On Saturday November 26th, Iqra Islamic School held a fundraising Dinner for the acquisition of a new parcel of land to build a new high school.
The program started with Quran recitation by Walid Zubair and translated by Ainy Mohamed.
The MC of the event was Maria Cheema and Faseeh Irfan.
The program began with the students of Iqra performing various acts that entertained the audience.
During her Speech acting Principal Ms. Randa El-Khatib remembered Br Abu Bakr Ali who had a vision that there will be another Muslim school where teachers will be able to perform at their full capacity. She stated, “Today his vision has been achieved.”
From 1998 till today Iqra has been achieving one milestone from another.
It grew from 1 classroom with 19 students to 434 students. Iqra has been winning medals at technology fair for three years in a row.
Ms. Randa El-Khatib said today “Iqra students are good examples of their schools.”
Iqra has many examples of students who started with them as students and now are working with them.
Many students from Iqra are now raising stars in the community in many fields.
The devotion of the founders and teachers of Iqra has paid off.
With the new High School, Iqra has a golden opportunity to start the whole process all over again. The new vision is to make Iqra a KG to grade 12 school.
MLA Bruce Ralston congratulated The Management that has been able to grow Iqra Islamic school tremendously and has been able to deliver valuable education to the community in Surrey.
MLA Harry Bains said he has watched the performance of the student and was impressed. He stated that they are our future and we have to provide them the best academic education as possible.
Bilal Cheema as a proud parent was very happy to send his son to Iqra and has been impressed with the quality of the education provided by Iqra. He stated we need to share our values with our Canadian friends
MP Randeep Sarai said “it was great to be there” and was honoured to represent a riding within 5 mosques. He is looking forward for the new high school project.
Surrey Councillor Tom Gill also expressed his gratitude for the help and support the community has given him over the years. He was deeply appreciative of the progress of Iqra and ensured his support for the new high school project
Dr. Ali Mehrig President of Iqra thanked MLA Bruce Ralston for the acknowledgement of Iqra’s progress at the legislative assembly of BC.
He stated finance has always been our challenge and he thanked Allah and with the support of the community Iqra has been able to meet the goals set by the management.
He thanked the founders for their effort and outlined the plans for future acquisition of a parcel of land adjacent to the existing 2 acre Iqra has acquired previously.
Dr. Munir El kassem was the chief guest and he congratulated the management and delivered an inspiring speech. He talked about how we become slaves to the materials things in live and forget to seek happiness which we wrongly associate with the material possessions.
A evening ended with a delicious dinner.
