July 28, 2017 -Multi-Cultural and Multi-Faith Solidarity Rally took place to support of Masjid Al Aqsa in Jerusalem, Palestine.
The Protest was Hosted by BC Muslim Communities at Vancouver Art Gallery in the evening on Friday July 28, 2017.
The protest march was held in response after Israel set up metal detectors that have sparked a major backlash from Palestinians at the entrances of al-Aqsa mosque.
Palestinian’s saw them as part of Israeli effort to assert its control over Masjid Al Aqsa.
The organizers believe this is the least we can do here in Canada to peacefully condemn the ongoing Israeli violation of human rights and aggression against the holy site.
For almost 70 years the holy site of Al Asqa Mosque has been held under siege by the Occupation government of Israel. For all this time the Israeli government has regularly forbidden access to Muslims, Christians and Jews from rightfully worshiping in this holy site. The ongoing recent violence and aggression against Palestinians in Jerusalem and throughout the West Bank has been escalating. The Occupation government of Israel has been implementing steel security gates and surveillance cameras in and around the Al Asqa Mosque in attempt to further limit and forbid Palestinians from entering the area to worship.
Nearly 1,100 Palestinian people in the last few weeks have been brutalized, attacked, beaten, threatened and some killed at the hands of the Israeli Occupation Forces; this includes men, women and youth. On July 19, 2017 the Imam of the Al Aqsa Mosque was shot by Israeli Occupation Forces after evening prayers for no reason.
Is Hoped that the Canadian Liberal Government will take positive and proactive stand for the Palestinian People. Many Protestors raised the question, “Why is our government silent? Canada is touted as a peace-keeping nation known to help in conflicts, to uphold justice and peace in foreign lands. Where is Canada for the Palestinians?”
Others asked, “When will human life and human rights to freedom and life take precedence over international trade deals and investments? Such trade deals and investments that serve only to enable the Israeli government to further illegally oppress Palestinian Muslims, Jews and Christians, illegally steal and occupy Palestinian lands, violate international laws, commit war crimes and crimes against humanity in Palestine.”
The organizers expect to see positive changes from the Liberal Government on the issue of Palestine as soon as possible.
Many speakers had expressed opinions openly that the governments that seek our votes must be accountable when it comes to issues that are important to the community.
While the Prime Minister was in town for a Liberal Party fundraiser, the media that was invited was not allowed to ask any questions.
