"Trade and Business Networking 2018: Opportunities with Indonesia"

27 November 2018 -The "Trade and Business Networking 2018: Opportunities with Indonesia" event was held by the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia on Tuesday, November 27th, 2018 in Vancouver. The event was attended by major stakeholders, including BC Government, business communities, as well as Indonesian Diaspora. The event is aimed to enhance economic cooperation between Indonesia and Canada, specifically with the business community in the BC Province.

In the event, it was highlighted there is a need to elevate current economic relations to its new level. The event also discussed a wide range of economic opportunities for Indonesia and Canada to expand and how to bring concrete results to enhance business engagement between the two countries.

Several significant points were raised: including 1) formulation of a workable plan of action to promote Indonesian culinary by qualified locals/Indonesian Diaspora; 2) funding collaboration to bring more Indonesian students to BC Province, supported by prominent state-owned bank, PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia; 3) the need to establish Canada-Indonesia Chamber of Commerce for enhanced engagement of the business communities between Canada and Indonesia; and 4) the importance of opening direct flights between Jakarta and Vancouver as a midterm target. Another point raised was the establishment of quarterly strategic working-level dialogues between the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia and the Ministry of Jobs, Trade and Technology of BC to exchange information about trade and investment opportunities in each other's markets and sectors as well as to share publicly available information about government, institutions and business sector programs, projects and practices in each of their jurisdictions.
