Imtiaz Asin attacked with bear spray

Sunday April 28th, Mohammed Imtiaz Asin, the BCMA Vice President for Youth & Development Services was attacked with bear spray at Tom Binnie Park in Surrey.
Imtiaz was just getting ready for the last day of the youth soccer skill development program when he noticed a stranger lady approaching a group of kids in the parking lot area.
According to his account, the lady was walking up to the children and parents unloading supplies.
Her close proximity to the kids raised some suspicion and he approached the lady.
He said,"I intervened and stood in the middle between them as she started to yell some in appropriate comments at that time I knew that something was wrong as I turned around to tell the children to go into the field."
By the time he turned his face away from the kids to her, she had taken out bear spray and attacked him while calling out inappropriate comments and ran away.
He called the RCMP who were quick to respond and the fire trucks arrived soon after. They helped him get the bear spray off his face.
He does not want to press any charges and feels the lady was just an addict suffering from mental illness. He does not feel the attack was racially motivated.
BCMA President Iltaf Sahib said, "Br Imtiaz is definitely a hero who all the kids that were under his care and our community is fortunate to have such a selfless passionate volunteer."
