3-18-2019

March 17-2019 – A rally in solidarity with the Victims of Christ Church Mosque massacre was held at  Vancouver’s art gallery with the stated aim by the organizers to “End of Ignorance - overcoming fear through faith”

Hundreds of people, Muslims and Non Muslims alike gathered to express their sentiments and offer their condolences to the victims of the mosque shooting.
The Honourable Harjit Singh Sajjan, Minister of Defence and MP for Fraser South also attended the event. He reminded the gathering that hatred has consequences. “Sadly those 50 people who died are the victims of those consequences.”

Imam of Masjid Al Salam, Yahyah Momla enlightened the gathering about Shariah.  Many people today have a lot of misconception about islam and how Shariah is taking over western countries. He gave examples of what Shariah is. Out of the 6,236 verses in the hole book of Muslims, the Quran,  He said, “Only 90 verses relate to Shariah – laws.” Shariah is when a Muslim cannot sleep with a full stomach when his neighbour is hungry, showing kindness to your week and vulnerable amongst us, speaking truth to the face of tyranny.”

Noor Fadel recounting her own experience when she was attacked in the sky train in 2017 said, “I was privileged to be able to go home and wake up the next morning. Those people did not.”

BCMA President Iltaf sahib, expressed the love of Muslims for all non Muslims and invited everyone to come and visit the mosques, “our mosque will be open to each and everyone of you. We will work together and stay united like today.”

Br Tariq Tayab who has been busy after the Quebec mosque massacre with interfaith dialogues with churches and synagogues thanked the RCMP and Vancouver Police for their immediate action to ensure the mosques are secure.

Towards the end of the rally, midday prayers (salatul zuhr) was held in the courtyard of the art center.
