PCA demands apology from MLA Jas Johal

On May 16th, 2019, Richmond-Queensborough MP Jas Johal chose division over unity when stating that a member of the NDP represented 'Islamabad North.' His comments spoke negatively about 3 Pakistani-Nationals with the implication being that all individuals from Pakistan are safety risks which feeds into a troubling Islamophobic narrative.
It is dear the elected representative of BC Liberal Party is taking a page out of politics of hate and divide and using fear and division to gain approval and support. Pakistan-Canada Association is disgusted with the comments made by Jas Johal and demand an immediate apology and retraction of his comments.
Pakistan-Canada Association was established in 1963 and since that time we have worked tirelessly to promote the good name of Pakistan in Canada. We are in every walk of life and are hard-working, proud members of Canadian society. Mr. Johal should remember his own roots before disparaging an entire community for political gain.
As the leader of the BC Liberal Party you are ultimately accountable for the actions of your MLAs. I hope you take this matter seriously and demand an apology and retraction from Mr. Johal.

Pakistan-Canada Association is a non-profit charitable organization founded in 1963 by the late Riasat Ali Khan. We are the oldest Pakistani organization in Canada and founders of the first mosque, Al-Jamia Masjid Vancouver, in Western Canada.
Our mandate is to celebrate, preserve and promote the cultural and religious identity of Pakistan while being positive contributors to the multicultural mosaic of Canada. We celebrate various major events during the year: Eid-ul-Fitr, Eid-ul-Adha, Republic Day of Pakistan, Independence Day of Pakistan and Canada Day. In addition to organizing events we also aid new immigrants settle in the lower mainland and provide educational and volunteer opportunities for Pakistani-Canadian youth.
In addition to Vancouver Jamia Masjid, PCA also owns a community center. Pakistan House. in Surrey, British Columbia. We continue to strive to best serve Pakistani-Canadians while evolving and innovating to stay current and progressive.
