A Bangladeshi Canadian, Dr Muhammad Morshed awarded Distinguished Microbiologist Award

Muhammad Morshed, a Bangladeshi native Canadian Microbiologist, has been awarded Canadian College of Microbiologist’s highest honour in their Association of Medical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases and Canadian Association of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases conjoint annual conference.
From Canadian College of Microbiologist, he has been awarded Distinguished Microbiologist Award with a plaque and C$1,000.00 on an auspicious award ceremony held in The Westin Hotel in Ottawa on April 4th, 2019 in their Association of Medical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases and Canadian Association of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases conjoint annual conference. This award is given to members of the Canadian College of Microbiologists in recognition of outstanding professional contributions to the field of Microbiology and demonstrated leadership in furthering microbiology at the national level in Canada in the areas of research, teaching and involvement in the Canadian College of Microbiologists.
Dr Morshed is currently working as a Clinical Professor at the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada. He is also Program Head for the Zoonotic and Emerging Pathogens as well as Parasitology Program at British Columbia Center for Disease Control’s Public Health Laboratory. In the past, he worked at the ICDDR’B; Dhaka Shishu Hospital, Bangladesh Institute of Child Health and Jahangirnagar University prior his move to Canada in 1997. Dr Morshed’s research interest is in Clinical Diagnosis and Molecular Epidemiology of Spirochetes causes Syphilis, Lyme disease, and other spirochetal illness.
Dr Morshed also received “Excellence in Clinical Services Award” in 2017 from the Dept of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, University of British Columbia and a national “Top 25 Immigrant Award” in 2017. Dr Morshed is also a registered member of BC Muslim association.
