Shireen Mazari to UN: Denotifiy Priyaka Chopra as A Goodwill Ambassador for Peace

8-23-2019

On August 20, 2019 Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Human Rights Dr Shireen Mazari In a letter written to UNICEF has called to remove Indian actor Priyanka Chopra as its goodwill ambassador for peace.

Mazari's letter to the UN reads:

"I wish to draw the attention to the issue of Ms Priyanka Chopra whom you have appointed as a UN Goodwill Ambassador for Peace. The recent crisis in Indian Occupied Kashmir (IOK) has been the result of the Modi government's violation of all international conventions that it is a signatory to, along with UNSC resolutions as well as conducting a campaign of ethnic cleansing of Kashmiri Muslims in IOK. The Modi government is also denying 4 million Muslims of their citizenship in Assam creating 'detention centres' akin to Nazi concentration camps. The Indian Occupation Forces have also intensified their campaign of using pellet guns against women and children as well as violence and abuse of women in IOK. The entire policy of the BJP government is similar to the Nazi doctrine of ethnic cleansing, racism, fascism and genocide. Ms Chopra has publicly endorsed this Indian government position and also supported the nuclear threat issued to Pakistan by the Indian Defence Minister.

"All this goes completely against the principles of peace and goodwill that Ms Chopra is supposed to uphold as a UN Goodwill Ambassador for Peace. Her jingoism and support for violations by the Modi government of international conventions and UNSC resolutions on Kashmir, as well as support for war, including a nuclear war, undermines the credibility of the UN position to which she has been elevated. Unless she is removed immediately, the very idea of a Goodwill Ambassador for Peace becomes a mockery globally.

"Therefore, I would request that she be immediately denotified as a UN Goodwill Ambassador for Peace."

Bollywood actor Priyanka has been in the news lately for her comments for supporting Indian Army’s human Rights violations in Kashmir.

Just recently on Aug 11, 2019 A US Pakistani Citizen confronted Priyanka on her pro war remarks and was denied to speak after her microphone was taken away.  Priyanka’s remarks  “Whenever you’re done venting” did not go well with Ayesha Malik, she said on her twitter account, “Sorry, didn’t realize that speaking on a humanitarian crisis was “venting.”

A protest on Change.org has garnered over 166 000 Signatures stating, “Priyanka Chopra doesn’t deserve to be UN’s Goodwill Ambassador”

The petition states:
Priyanka Chopra doesn’t deserve to be a Goodwill Ambassador for the UN.

In an attempt to express her nationalism towards her country India, she tweeted her support for the Indian Air Force’s violation of entering into Pakistan’s territory.

Through her tweet, she has celebrated an attempt at war against Pakistan. Someone as influential as Priyanka Chopra, who has a massive following globally, must know how war is never the solution to win at each other.

War destroys the life of innocent people on both sides of the border and must be condemned at any cost. Considering her role as the Ambassador of child rights and education for girls, Chopra needs to learn a lesson on how devastating the impact of war can be, especially for children.

She must realise the significance of the position she holds and United Nations must take back her ambassadorship since she is niether an ambassador of goodwill nor peace.
