Muslim Care Centre's first annual fundraiser

10-30-2019

Over 300 people attended Muslim Care Centre's first annual fundraiser on October 20, 2019. MCC has distributed over 35,000 food items, provides free women's counseling, and free chiropractic treatments to the vulnerably housed, and the homeless in Vancouver's downtown east-side, since its launch on July 27th 2019. The fundraising dinner which took place at Riverside Banquet Hall in Surrey, raised just over 50,000k through ticket sales, sponsorship's, pledges, and auction items making it a successful event.

The annual event was also a kick-off to sustain MCC for a full year inshaAllah. The evening was filled with inspiring speeches from various different non-profit organizations and individuals. “People who struggle with drugs are people who are hurting, and need healing. They don’t need judgement, they need  love and support.

They need to know that we care, and that Muslim Care Centre is actively trying to ignite change in the downtown east-side by helping them meet their basic needs with respect and integrity” said Halina -volunteer at MCC. MCC now has a team of over 260 volunteers and continue to feed over a hundred vulnerable downtown east-side community members a day. Muslim Care Centre is now accepting warm clothing and blankets for the homeless.

MCC is organizing monthly seminars starting November, at Surrey Jamia Masjid for Muslims to share their addiction story with the intention of increasing awareness about addiction within our own community and removing stigma around drug users to better aid them in their journey to sobriety. Local scholars will be apart of this program to share perspective on how to cope with addiction, and receive help.
