Surrey Board of Trade Congratulates New Surrey RCMP Officer in Charge, Brian Edwards

Starting January 6, 2020, the Surrey RCMP will have a new Officer in Charge, Assistant Commissioner Brian Edwards.

ABOUT CHIEF SUPERINTENDENT BRIAN EDWARDS
Chief Superintendent Edwards has over 24 years of policing experience, encompassing both municipal and RCMP police services. He volunteered as an Auxiliary Constable with Okotoks RCMP in Alberta from 1987-1990 before joining the Calgary Police Service in 1995.
In 2003, Chief Superintendent Edwards transferred to the RCMP and worked in frontline policing in Richmond. In 2008, he moved to the Lower Mainland District overseeing strategic planning, service delivery and risk management. Commissioned to the rank of Inspector in 2011, he was appointed as a Grievance Adjudicator until 2014 when he became the Officer in Charge of the Employment Requirements Unit in response to the modernization of the RCMP Act. He was later assigned to the role of the Government Liaison Officer and oversaw contract and service delivery matters with the provincial Policing and Security Branch.
In 2016, Chief Superintendent Edwards became the Lower Mainland District Corporate and Client Services Officer, where he was responsible for strategic and business planning, risk management and integrated police services, and acting as the key interface between the District and contract municipalities. Most recently, he was the Officer in Charge of the Lower Mainland Integrated Teams prior to becoming the Officer in Charge of Surrey detachment. He will be promoted to the rank of Assistant Commissioner upon assuming his new role at the Surrey RCMP.
Chief Superintendent Edwards has a law degree and a Masters in Linguistics from the University of Calgary. He lives in White Rock with his family.
