On the Anniversary of the Quebec City Mosque Shooting, Our Hearts Are With the Victims

Leaders across political parties and across provinces wear the Green Square in support of the families of the victims

(Ottawa - 29 January 2020)

Over the last two weeks, the Islamic Cultural Centre of Quebec (CCIQ), Islamic Relief Canada and the National Council of Canadian Muslims have continued to support the families of the victims.

Today, we are calling on all Canadians to stand with elected officials across the country by wearing a green square on January 29, 2020 and stand in solidarity with the victims.

We are calling on Canadians to ensure that the families of the victims, some of whom lost their sole breadwinners, are cared for. We ask all Canadians to stand by them by going online and donating today.

“January 29 is a day that will forever remind us of the sheer hatred and intolerance that led to the attack on the Quebec City mosque. We will never forget about when Islamophobia visited our doors,” said Mustafa Farooq, Executive Director of the National Council of Canadian Muslims. “We are asking all Canadians to wear a Green Square in solidarity with the victims and survivors of the attack. The green square represents the green carpets of the mosque where the victims last stood to pray. Wear it to stand against hate. Wear it to stand for a better Canada.”
