Coronavirus: A worldwide threat

2-04-2020

Coronavirus has infected thousands and killed hundreds of people while the numbers of those infected and killed are rising at an alarming rate. The Centre for Disease Control (CDC) is closely monitoring the outbreak of respiratory illness caused by coronavirus, a respiratory infection, which was first identified in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China. Chinese authoritiesidentified the new coronavirus, which has resulted in thousands of confirmed cases in China, including cases outside Wuhan City.

Additional cases have been identified in a growing number of other international locations including Canada.

Organizations such as the PCA and the BCMA should be proactive and diligent in addressing this issue with our community through social media as well as during Jummah prayers.

On February 4th, a second case of the coronavirus was identified in BC. The patient was in contact with family in Wuhan.

I have provided a link to the CDC page regarding systems, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and transmission of the coronavirus outbreak.

The Public Health Agency of Canada has stated that “extreme risk” exists and that “all non-essential travel to China and avoid all travel to the province of Hubei, including the cities of Wuhan, Huanggang and Ezhou, due to the imposition of heavy travel restrictions in order to limit the spread of a novel coronavirus.”

Please heed the warnings from the Canadian health agencies.

Do not risk your lives while travelling to Pakistan or other neighboring countriesthrough China.
