The Citizens Foundation Vancouver Chapter launches with substance and style

10-22-2014

Citizens Foundation (TCF) Vancouver Chapter organized its Launch and Fundraiser Dinner. Pakistani Pop Legend Alamgir flew from Atlanta to perform and support the noble cause. By the end of the evening TCFVancouver was able to raise its target funds to support the annual running cost of one of the TCFprimary schools in Pakistan.

TCF is Pakistan’s largest nonprofit organization working in the field of education. It builds and manages primary and secondary schools in less privileged areas of Pakistan. TCF has a very unique operating model that has achieved remarkable success over the past decade. As of April 2014, TCF has expanded its network to a 1000 operational School Units, which provides free quality education to 145,000 students nationwide. TCFCanada, one of its international chapters, helps primarily collecting donations from expatriates and various other organizations. It is registered with Canada Revenue Agency that means the donations are tax deductible.

The TCFVancouver Launch and Fundraiser Dinner was a huge success. President TCFCanada, Aziz Rakla, along with 200 odd guests attended the memorable evening organized by the young TCFVancouver team. The mission of this subchapter is to raise awareness and promote the TCF brand and organize annual fundraisers targeting the Greater Vancouver audience. The goal of these fundraisers is to raise enough funds to build and manage a school from the donations collected from the Greater Vancouver Region. Raising $23K was the first baby step towards achieving this goal.

The event started with a documentary by the Oscar winner documentarian, Shermeen Obaid Chinnoiy, introducing TCF. Fareeha Mohsin, Vancouver Chapter Lead, followed with a brief talk about TCF’s international chapters, in particular TCFCanada and the mission and goals of the newly launched Vancouver chapter. Mr.Rakla, President TCFCanada came after talking about the humble beginnings of TCF Canada and its achievements of supporting 57 schools from funds collected from Canada. The Keynote speaker for the night was Mr. Hussien Jinnah, who gave a truly motivating speech focusing on the Art of Giving and Significance.

There were two auctions going on at the event. Ayesha Nasser, Vancouver based visual artist, donated one of her paintings. Electronic Arts sponsored a tour for 6 of their Stateofthearts EA Campus which was also available for auction. Proceeds from both auctions were donated to TCF. Other valuable sponsors included Sheraton Hotel, Creative Solutions, Falcon Travels, Smart Advice, Gulberg, PAK National, Mirza Studios, Sunum Decorators and Sadaf Baig Realtor. The highlight of the night, undoubtedly, was Alamgir. His presence and energy on stage had everyone up on their feet, singing along and cheering. Alamgir’s performance lasted over an hour and later guests waited in queues to take picture with the Legend. Alamgir was able to connect with everyone in the audience irrespective of the age and his humble and inspiring personality won many hearts. The musical night ended with a standing ovation to The Legend.

Congratulation to TCFVancouver for not only achieving their goal but also in giving everyone a memorable and mesmerizing night to remember TCF by.
