Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) held a Solidarity Event

12-03-2014

On November 29th, 2014 Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) held a Solidarity Event, coinciding with, which is now confirmed as the largest protest in Pakistan's history against the current Nawaz Sharif's government over vote rigging, and adamant refusal to reform the current flawed and questionable electoral process.

In May 11, 2013 elections, PTI which was seen as the party to form the next government, it had the support of people in all four provinces. Pakistanis, after decades of corrupt governments lead by traditional parties, PMLN, and PPP, that has bankrupted the country wanted a change, and were ready to try an new party led by a national hero, Imran Khan.

PTI executives and voters were naive to believe that this would be an independent elections. It was anything but that, and unfortunately, PMLN led by Nawaz Sharif party formed the government.

Immediately, there were protest over the elections, but the silver lining was that PTI did win considerable seats to form the official opposition and Party leadership calmed the public, promising to push for electoral reforms and use the legal avenues available to challenge constituencies where apparent voting fraud was evident.

Unfortunately, after fifteen months of relentless tries it was clear that neither Shairf's government, nor the traditional parites, specifically, PPP, Co-Chaired by Asif Ali Zardari  were interested in any form of reforms, which would certainly limit, if not restrict their victories in the future.

On August 14, 2014, PTI and its MNA's decided to bring their plea to the public, and sat outside the parliament, and now have been sitting outside for more than 110 days, demanding Sharif's resignation, who seemed to be the biggest obstacle to the reforms, along with his four leading ministers, and speaker of the house, whose victories are being challenged.

Slowly but surely, the traditional partis whom had been presenting themselves as the enemies to each other have formed a very friendly if not congenial relationship, and public has see that this opposition was just a facade, and now have turned against the Status-quo, as Imran Khan and PTI gain support at their expense. They have been upping the bar bit by bit, and Nawaz government seems to be feeling the heat.

Lets pray that the current government realizes that there days are numbered and leaves peacefully, thus avoiding, what could end up being a bloody revolution.
