IDRF AGM 2014-2015

We are pleased to announce that Mr. Zeib Jeeva O.Ont., has been elected as the new Chair of the IDRF Board of Directors for the term 2014-2016. The election was held at IDRF's Annual General Meeting on November 23, 2014, during which the audited Financial Statements for the fiscal year 2014 were presented and the Board of Directors for the year 2015 were appointed.

 

Mr Jeeva has been attached to IDRF for over two decades during which time he has served as the Treasurer and the Vice Chair. He is heavily immersed in the charitable sector and was also a founding member of the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund Canada and is the recipient of the Order of Ontario and Queen's Jubilee Medal.


 IDRF is priviledged to have Mr Jeeva as a leader. Through his past involvement, IDRF has broadened its mandate to include many educational projects including for the First Nations children and disadvantaged children in Toronto.

 

Outgoing Chair, Mr Winston Kassim, C.M., presented the Chairman's Report and gave an overview of the major achievements over the past year.  In conclusion he announced that he was stepping down from the role of Chair, although he was ready to complete his term on the Board. "I have had the honour of serving as your Board Chair for the past four years, and it has been an amazing experience filled with love, joy and sometimes sadness that so much poverty still exists around the world. But while much remains to be done, I am extremely proud of what we have accomplished together."

 

Mr Winston Kassim is the recipient of the Order of Canada and the Queen's Jubilee Medal and under his leadership, IDRF has gained many successes including the opening of our first Country office in Pakistan as well as increasing IDRF's commitment domestically within Canada. At the same time he spearheaded the bold step of purchasing the new IDRF premises which are now our Head offices.

 

He was given a Vote of Thanks for his outstanding leadership, as well as for his decade of generous support of IDRF. He received a standing ovation from the membership.

 

The Nominations Committee presented a Board slate for the elections, which was elected by majority vote. The IDRF Board of Directors comprises: Zeib Jeeva, Winston Kassim, Javed Akbar, Nurhan Aycan, Yasmeen Siddiqui, Seema Rizvi, Samir Dossal, Mukhtar Rehamtulla, Reza Rizvi, Shahzad Siddiqui, Marzia Hassan and Yasmeena Mohamed. The Executive Committee members will be voted in at the first Board Meeting to be held in the near future.

 

IDRF Founder, Dr. Fuad Sahin, who is also a Recipisent of the Order of Ontario, offered the closing prayer, thanking God for helping Canadians create an honorable organization like IDRF, asking Him to help the new Board and everyone associated with IDRF with the capacity to do more work for IDRF so that IDRF may in turn have the capacity to do more for Mankind.

 

The attending members were pleased to see the very positive Financial results which were published in the newly released IDRF Annual Report.
