Former Fijian residents team up to start a non-profit dedicated to improving lives of lower income groups in Fiji

5-19-2015

Canadian residents of the Fijian Diaspora have teamed up to create Generosity International Foundation, a non-profit organization focused primarily on building houses for lower income groups in Fiji. The NPO was formed in December of 2014.

The organization’s mission, according to Mohammed Yasin, CPA, CGA, is to assist lower income Fiji residents to have access to clean and affordable housing. While this is Generosity International’s primary mission, the organization also has a few other projects that benefit Canadian residents as well. The non-profit plans on awarding scholarships to Canadian students based on merit. There will be a selection process to decide which students will be considered for awarding the scholarships.

In six months, Generosity International has already completed seven houses, one house in Suva, capital of Fiji, five houses  in Nadi and one in Ba. In partnership with the Fiji Muslim League, Generosity International plans on building 15 houses in total this year in Nadi, BA and in the Suva-Nausori corridor.

The projects in Fiji are also being assisted by the Canadian Society of Fiji Muslims and the International Muslim Academy of Canada.

Two of the directors of the foundation, Mohammed Yasin and Mohammed Shameen, were in Fiji early this month to meet with the officials of Fiji Muslim League, Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Housing and various other parties.
