MOSAIC Celebrates 40th Anniversary over 40 Days

10-03-2016

Vancouver BC – MOSAIC is commemorating its 40th anniversary with a 40 day celebration beginning on Labour Day, and concluding on October 14 at Festival MOSAIC , the organization’s signature annual fundraising  gala.

An informational campaign begins on September 5th and each day, a piece of history about the organization will be unveiled on MOSAIC’s website in the form of a compelling video, vintage photo, or fun fact.

During the 40 days of celebration, open houses will be held at all sites managed by MOSAIC.  The organization’s Annual General Meeting on September 22nd will also take place during this period.

Eyob Naizghi, Executive Director said that MOSAIC has reached a mature stage in its leadership, its delivery of services, and its engagement of the public and the community for systemic change.

He noted that “MOSAIC’s achievements cannot be measured merely by the size of the organization or the growth of the organization.  Despite the expansion and diversification in services, despite our geographic expansion, MOSAIC’s legacy is ultimately measured by clients’ success stories.”

Naizghi also expressed pride regarding the contributions of stakeholders.  “What continues to amaze me about the organization is the leadership that exists at every level within our staff to bring about change for the inclusion and participation of the immigrant and refugee communities.  The commitment and dedication of the staff has elevated the organization to where it is.  We have established our ability to the level it is at with the participation of the staff, the volunteers, and with the participation of our board at the governance level.”

MOSAIC was founded from the union of two grass-roots agencies which began as Local Initiative Projects in 1972.  Multilingual Social Service and Language Aid for Ethnic Groups joined forces in 1976 and MOSAIC became a non-profit society.

MOSAIC provides settlement, language, employment and counselling services to newcomers at 27 sites throughout Metro Vancouver.  MOSAIC also operates one of Canada’s leading Interpretations and Translations Services.  MOSAIC delivers services and engages in community building and advocacy to facilitate meaningful participation of immigrants and refugees in Canadian society.

MOSAIC was delighted to host Their Excellencies, David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, and Mrs. Sharon Johnson at its headquarters on September 30th.
