India Wags the Dog!

10-04-2016

Make no mistake, Pakistan is no pushover. The Foreign Secretary accompanied by the Director General (Military Operations) briefed the Ambassadors of Permanent Members of UN Security Council (China, France, Russian Federation, UK and USA on September 30th, 2016 about the frivolous Indian claim of carrying out “surgical strikes on the LoC.” India continues to claim that it had “intelligence” that “terrorists” were trying to infiltrate into Indian Occupied Kashmir from Pakistan. This is India’s misadventure gone wrong on multiple levels. India’s now attempting to cover up its own miscalculated misadventure with half-truths, half-lies. Indian government has yet to produce any substantial proof to the international community, and within India to its opposition political rivals.

The United Nation General Secretary, Mr. Ban Ki Moon’s spokesperson, Stephane Dujarric told reporters that the UN Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) "has not directly observed any firing across the LoC related to the latest incidents. "They are obviously aware of the reports of these presumed violations and are talking to the relevant concerned authorities,"

All fingers are now being pointed at India, Indian military, for violating the ceasefire agreement in Kashmir along the LoC. In particular, the international community views the lndia’s latest misadventure as, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s attempt to “Wag the Dog” at the expense of Pakistan, to combat his own waning popularity within India, and divert international community’s growing concerns about War Crimes committed by Indian Army in Indian Occupied Kashmir.

Pakistan’s Director General (Military Operations) gave a detailed briefing of the situation on the LoC and has completely rejected the Indian claim of “surgical strikes.” He asserted, “During the briefing, In reality, on the night of September 28/29, the Indian occupation forces resorted to unprovoked firing at the LoC at multiple points, which led to the shahadat (Martyrdom) of two Pakistani soldiers.” He also explained that “The Armed Forces of Pakistan gave a befitting response to the ceasefire violations by India.” As he reassured the ambassadors and explained that, “the troop’s positions on the LoC and explained the anti-infiltration mechanisms already in place.”

Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary also rejected the false and baseless Indian claims. He conveyed serious concerns over the increased Indian aggression and belligerence, especially during the last few days which could also be seen in multiple public statements made by the Indian Prime Minister. He also informed the Envoys that the people of Pakistan stood shoulder to shoulder with the Armed Forces of Pakistan in defending our homeland. Highlighting the fact that, “Pakistan remains the major victim of terrorism, including State terrorism.”

India’s main opposition party, the Congress, led by Gandhi, is demanding “proof” be provided for the so-called “surgical strike” and Indian government has yet to produce such proof. Another political rival, Aam Aadmi Party’s leader, Arvind Kejriwal has turned the tables on Mr. Modi, demanding Mr. Modi that, “he should give a stinging rejoinder to Islamabad’s persistent denial of any such strike.”

This is yet another blatant attempt by India – a smokes and mirrors strategy – to undermine Pakistan’s position as a host, within South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) nations.

Pakistan was scheduled to host the 19th SAARC Summit, a regional diplomatic union of eight South Asian Countries: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. It was scheduled to be held in Islamabad, Pakistan on November 15-16, 2016. India had already boycotted citing the “Uri Attack,” in Indian Occupied Kashmir, on September 18, 2016, allegedly by “terrorists.” Although no terrorists group has taken responsibility of the attack. India points it at “supposedly” a Pakistani based group. The summit is now cancelled indefinitely as few other nations have also expressed reservations, following India’s boycott.

There is no doubt within the India that PM Modi’s has failed to deliver, what he had set out in his bid to the PM’s position in last general elections in 2014. It has been more than two years since PM Modi, who won the election on a Hindu Fundamentalist Party, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) flag. BJP expresses its commitment to Hinduvta, seeking a nation, purely for the Hindus, and ultimate goal is to convert India into Hindustan – Land of Hindus.

Mr. Modi’s main election pitch to the voters was “Acche Din” – Better Days. A Canadian equivalent of “Sunny Days.” Mr. Modi, in past, as Chief Minister of India’s largest province, Gujrat had in fact managed to convert Gujrat into financial hub for India. He promised to do the same for India at global levels, if he is elected as the PM. With rising inflation coupled with weak economy, India continues to dwarf against its biggest economic rival, China. News headlines across India have now been calling for sometime, “PM Modi under fire as middle class India still awaits Acche Din.”

However, the most concerning aspect of Indian Army venturing into a war arena, in an obvious attempt to divert international community’s attention  away from the documented war crimes it has committed against the defenceless civilian population, majority Muslims, in Indian Occupied Kashmir.

Pakistan's Ambassador to the United Nations Dr Maleeha Lodhi, while talking to Al Jazeera, confirmed that Pakistan Army has "captured an Indian soldier who was trying to enter” into Pakistani territory. Lodhi, however, denied that there was any surgical strike inside the territory of Pakistan, as claimed by the Indian forces.

“India is trying to divert global attention from the war crimes it is committing in occupied Kashmir, where more than a 100 people have been killed in cold-blood by Indian forces,” said the Pakistan's ambassador.

She said that India is trying to provoke a conflict with Pakistan to calm its domestic opinion, because even India’s domestic opinion is questioning its role in Kashmir. “My country [Pakistan] has exercised maximum restraint in the face of what happened in the early hours of Thursday.”

Indian government has once again managed to distort facts by creating a thick smoke screen to mask its own ill intentions with the assistance of its Military, which is under strict scrutiny, by international community and human rights groups for its past and most current acts of War Crimes. It is now up to the international community to hold India accountable for its persistent violations of the international laws, and its act of crimes against humanity in Indian Occupied Kashmir. As Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary asserted, as he called upon the Permanent Members of the UN Security Council “to play their role to ensure maintenance of peace and security in the region.”
