Search underway in bizarre case of Ont. woman missing for a decade

11-01-2016

A massive search is underway for the remains of an Ontario woman who disappeared a decade ago, but was only reported missing last year.

Police believe that Nuseiba Hasan was a victim of foul play. She was 26 years old when she was last seen alive in 2006, at her family’s rural property in the Flamborough area of Hamilton, Ont.
“We are looking for evidence (such as) a body,” Det. Sgt. Peter Thom of the Hamilton Police told reporters on Monday, as officers on horses and others on foot searched the area.

A forensic anthropologist was also on site, and investigators will be using cadaver dogs, ground penetrating radar and drones in their search.

Police say it wasn’t until last year that a family member reported Hasan missing. They also say some family members are not co-operating with the investigation. Many of Hasan’s family members, including her mother, live in Jordan, while some of her siblings still own and live in properties in southwestern Ontario, police said.

Police have not identified any suspects in the case.

One woman who lives near the Flamborough farm said police knocked on her door a couple of years ago to inquire about the property where Hasan lived.

“I'm certainly hoping that they find this girl and put her at rest. That's a long time to be lost,” Kim Gray told CTV Kitchener.
