Muslim Organizations Learn about the Security Infrastructure Program

12-29-2016

Governments provide a variety of funding envelopes for a diverse range of needs.  Sometimes finding these pots of money in support of an initiative, to bring awareness to a cause or simply to protect something of value can be challenging. Understanding the machinations of government can be complex.

One such program that was recently brought to the community's attention was the recently announced Security Infrastructure Program; a program designed to protect at risk places of worship, educational institutions and/or community centers.  When one thinks of a community at risk; you can't help but think of the Muslim community; given the rise in Islamophobia across our country.  Muslims and their institutions have been targeted by hate fueled attacks.  Taking precautionary measures is always recommended, but Muslims should not have to live in fear, especially at a place of worship.

Bilal Cheema recently organized a meeting of representatives from mosques and educational institutions, from across the lower mainland to introduce the program at MP Randeep Sarai's office.  Brother Bilal spoke to the key components of the program while Randeep Sarai encouraged the representatives to take advantage of these types of government support. MP Sarai also ensured his support for applications put forward from the community.

Participants were also reminded of opportunities linked to the Canada Summer Jobs program; a federal initiative to support jobs for youth.  The program is available to both the non profit and for profit sectors; the only caveat being the government pays the full salary for the non profit sector.  Muslim businesses and organizations are encouraged to apply. You can learn more by contacting your local MP or Brother Bilal Cheema at bilal_cheema@ymail.com for more information.
