BCMA Young Ummah Sisters Indoor Soccer Tournament

5-03-2017

The sisters hosted their 3rd indoor soccer tournament at Queen Elizabeth High School on April 22 with organizers Rozemeen Khan and Tahzi Ali.   The judges were Saima Salim, Esma Hamzagic and Raqiya Mohammad.  This year the tournament was supported by Young Ummah with Br Tahir Sattar, Br. Hammadullah Qazi and VP of Youth Br. Imtiaz Azin.

The tournament day was filled with a lot of fun, games, prizes and excitement as the teams played a very well matched and competitive tournament.  The teams were Rahmah Strikers (Shabina Ali), The Royals (Anjuma Mobeen), The Internationals (Nada Elmasry), Muhsinaat (Hajrah Elley),  Kick-it (Gulnaz Khan), Victorious Secret (Ayesha Ali).  The top 3 placed teams were:  1st place Victorious Secret (Coach/Captain Ayesha Ali), 2nd place Rahmah Strikers (Shabina Ali coach, Ayanah Hassan captain), and 3rd place Royals (Anjuma Mobeen coach, Zeenat Mobeen captain).  Victorious and Rahmah played a very hard fought close final game with each player bringing all their skill and energy to the game.  The game could have gone to either team however Victorious snuck in a second goal ending in a 2-1 victory!

The most valuable player for the final game was Shafia Khan with Victorious Secret.  In addition a player in each team was awarded a trophy for superstar/standout player for the team.  These were: Iftu Taju, Tahira Khan, Amanda Kovarik, Zakiya Khan and Ayana Hassan.   All the teams had outstanding team spirit and leadership.  Rahmah Strikers supported by the Rahmah Masjid Womens Chapter were awarded with a plaque for the most outstanding team for their leadership, organization and team spirit.  The teams were honoured to have Sr. Nazmun Asin, Womens Council Funeral Director and Sr. Farida Bano Chair Womens Council present the awards to the girls.

There was no shortage of excitement for the day.  The tournament introduced junior teams with one of the gyms dedicated to junior games.  Young girls from 6-14 were placed on teams by senior girls for fun scrimmages which encourage fun and safe play while being coached and mentored by the senior girls.  With over 30 junior players participating, the organizers were encouraged to see the need to build on the enthusiasm to encourage our girls to participate in a healthy, fun and active sport.  The junior players were all awarded with participation ribbons and gift bags.

To ensure no one was left out the mothers and aunties had a chance to participate in a game that was fun for everyone. Way to go moms!  Thank you to Gulnaz Khan for helping with the junior and mom teams!

We would like to thank the sponsors Dean Pharmacy, Shams Meat, Alameen and Brand Build Advertising.   Our sincere gratitude to brothers, volunteers, team organizers, players, judges, Masjid Rahmah womens chapter and fans for the tireless hard work and support to make the 2017 Sisters Soccer Tournament our best yet!  We look forward to a bigger and better tournament to include teams for juniors and seniors in the future Insha Allah.
