Iftar in Downtown Eastside

6-13-2017

Ramadan is a month of sharing, and many of us are blessed to have something to break our fast with after a long day. The hunger we feel when we fast helps us realize the countless blessings that God has given us. It also reminds us of the struggles that are faced by many in our community.

Vancouver Madinah shared iftar with the residents of the Downtown Eastide (DTES) community on June 8th. The gathering was a great opportunity for the homeless to experience Ramadan with Muslims in the community and learn about why is it that we fast.

We served food inside the DTES Neighbourhood House feeding a little over 80 people with the help of 20 volunteers that made the event successful. It was chance for the Muslim community and people from the Downtown Eastside to get to know each other and put a smile on each others faces.
