EID-AL-ADHA Message from President of The B.C. Muslim Association

9-06-2017

Bismillah ar-Rahman ar-Rahim

In the name of Allah, the most Gracious, the most Merciful

All praise belongs to Allah, the Creator of heavens and earth and the Lord of the universe.

Dear respected brothers, sisters, elders and children

Assalamu’Alaykum wa Rahamatullahi wa Barakatuhu

On behalf of The BC Muslim Association, officials and staff, it is my pleasure to extend a very warm and joyous EID MUBARAK to you and your loved ones.

Today we celebrate Eid-ul-Adha following the best 10 days of the year - the blessed days of Zul Hijjah. We celebrate the significance and spirit of sacrifice preserved in the life and legacy of Prophet Ibrahim (AS). His entire life from childhood to fatherhood was filled with numerous trials, tribulations and sacrifices. As a child, he was tested when seeking the Creator of the universe. He was physically tortured when he challenged the beliefs of the dominant culture of his father. His patience was again tested as a husband and father, when he was instructed by Allah (SSWT) to leave his wife and son in the scorching heat of the barren desert of Makkah. He faced the ultimate trial of his life in old age when he was commanded by Allah, in a dream, to sacrifice his only son. Prophet Ibrahim (AS) was the ultimate shining example of sacrifice for generations to follow.

There is a lesson for us all and it’s imperative to reflect on our spirit of sacrifice for the betterment of Islam, our community, our country and most importantly ourselves . This is the spirit of unselfishness and sacrifice that we need to re-establish in an era defined by greed, egoism, self-promotion and selfies!

Every believing Muslim crave to perform the pilgrimage at least once in a lifetime and come closer to Allah (swt) and ask forgiveness and regret their shortcomings. In Hajj we make a genuine commitment to Allah that we sincerely repent and promise to change and live the rest of our lives as a true believer, a true Muslim. Allah swt, in HIS infinite mercy, will grant our wish, In Sha Allah; BUT,  overtime we tend to forget that moment, that promise and commitment and consequently, old habits become normal. To safeguard our commitment to Allah swt, we must always be conscious of our promise and genuinely change our life otherwise the journey is meaningless no matter how many times we perform the Hajj. Let us always keep reminding ourselves.

Today, violence and anti- Muslim sentiments are widespread and our Ummah is faced with strange philosophy that is trying to destroy the fundamental message of Islam.  We are passing through challenging times. We are confronted with deceptive messages and we need to educate our society and everyone about the true message and glory days of Islamic culture and civilization. We live in an age where security and safety is a major concern especially our sisters due to bigotry and hatred  mostly filtering from the South.

I hope and pray that you and your families have a wonderful Eid. On this auspicious occasion, let’s renew the lessons learned from our beloved Prophet Ibrahim (pbuh) and bring change in our lives and make a difference in the lives of other people. May Allah swt bring us all closer to Islam and enable us to fulfill our responsibilities and make us a better Muslim. May He bless and reward all the volunteers and hard working officials of BC Muslim Association and their families for their dedication, loyalty and sacrifice….Ameen!

“EID MUBARAK”
