Award winning Play -An Arrangement of Shoe Now Playing at Vancouver Fringe Festival to commemorate 70 years of Independence of India and Pakistan

9-06-2017

Thrilled to play at Vancouver Fringe Festival for its North-American Premiere, An Arrangement of Shoes is fresh from a sell-out run at London's renowned Tara Theatre, where it featured as part of Tara's #70/70 season showcasing 70 works to commemorate 70 years of Independence of India and Pakistan. It then toured to the 70th Edinburgh Fringe Festival before arriving here in Canada.

Award-winning writing by Abhishek Majumdar - an astonishing theatre voice from India, whose play The Djinns of Eidgah was produced by the Royal Court in 2016. An Arrangement of Shoes is a moving, personal and energeting onewoman show set in an Indian Railway Colony during the First Gulf War.

Set in an Indian railway colony during the Gulf War, An Arrangement of Shoes is a solo show devised by Maya Foa and Radhika Aggarwal. Spirited narrator Rukhsar takes audiences on a captivating journey through her memories, painting a picture both of family history and the history of the time.

"How do we begin to remember those that are no longer with us? Do we arrange their history, their memories, their photographs...Or do we begin bottom up, by arranging therir shoes?"

On the eve of her grandfather's burrial, Rukshar searches through her memories for something that will help her reconnect with her past, her grandfather and...his shoes. Spirited and engaging, muslim storyteller Rukshar brings her home and family to life; in revisiting their shared past she relates an intriguing history - not only her own, but also of the wide-reaching consequences of war.

Touching, inventive and disarming in its warmth and simplicity, An Arrangement of Shoes charts the ebb and flow of love, loss and family ties whilst subtly exploring themes of globalisation and identity, in the Age of Faith.
