IDRF Canada wide tour for the Rohingya A success
IDRF launched a Canada wide tour with events to raise funds and provide emergency aid to refugees that have fled Myanmar and have now found refuge in Bangladesh.
Their emergency packages include 40 kg food packages of nutritious staples like rice, wheat flour, soybean oil, puffed rice, pulses, baby food (powdered milk), high energy biscuits and water purifying tablets. Each food package costs $45 and can support a family of 5 for a month. Farheen Khan coordinator with IDRF stated, “With your continued support, we can continue to provide critical emergency aid to these vulnerable people.”
So far IDRF has distributed food parcels to over 1000 families with food for a full month in bangladesh as they flee the atrocities that they have had to endure in myanmar.
Canada wide tour was from Nov 22 – 26 starting in Mississauga, Ottawa, Calgary and Vancouver.
Muslim Council of Calgary raised about $55000 for Rohingya Refugees.
Government of Canada will match all contributions that are made before November 28th. The Calgary event was well attended and Dr. Fizza Salim, Dr. Sameena Ashraf Bajwa and Dr. Fozia Alvi shared their stories from their work in Health Camps in Bangladesh.
IDRF does not have a local representative in Vancouver but did manage to have a small gathering and raise awareness for their future projects. Sister Yasmin Ullah spoke about the current situation and urged the Government of Canada to do more.
Overall the Canada Wide United tour was a success.
