The Ringleaders Panel

Saturday, December 16, 2017 marked the first official event of Voices of Muslim Women (VMW), "The Ringleaders' Panel" at the HiVE in Downtown Vancouver. VMW is a registered non-profit organization which was created in 2017 to bring together self-identifying Muslim women/femmes of all ages, ethnicities and backgrounds and showcase the incredible diversity of Muslim women, their outstanding talent and social contributions.

The Ringleaders' Panel, led by founding members Aisha Azba Amijee and Fatima Ahmed, was a welcoming event to introduce VMW to the community, discuss topics that affect many women, as well as raise funds for the organization. Additionally, it provided an opportunity to meet and mingle with incredible Muslim women from all over Vancouver.

Panelists included Dr. Nasrin Maiter, award-winning photographer Alia Youssef, criminal defense attorney Veen Aldosky and blogger Ilhan Abdullahi. These four incredible women opened up about experiences in their respective careers, their relationships with their identities as Canadian Muslim women of color, and their hopes for the future.

Alia Youssef also showcased her work, "The Sisters Project", which highlights the stories of diverse Muslim women from across Canada. There were also exhibits by NISA Homes, Freed Education, Rasmi Skincare, and Lemon & Poppy, as well as, a live performance at the end of the night by the extremely talented Jaeda Malawiya.

Voices of Muslim Women welcomes women and men of all ages, ethnicities, religions and backgrounds. Additionally, If you are passionate about social justice initiatives in the community and want to help break the stereotypical image of Muslim women, VMW invites you to join the movement by becoming a member.
