Trudeau once again fails to take responsibility

3-07-2018

Canadians across the country were shocked to learn that Jaspal Atwal, convicted in the attempted murder of Indian cabinet minister Malkiat Singh Sidhu during a visit to Vancouver Island in 1986, was invited to dine with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at an event hosted by the Canadian High Commissioner during Prime Minister’s trip to India last week.

First, he let one of his MPs take the blame for the invitation. Then shockingly, Justin Trudeau forced a senior member of the civil service to engage in frantic damage control, peddling that Jaspal Atwal may have been planted at an event with the Prime Minister by the Indian government, Indian security agencies or factions in the Indian government.

It is dangerously irresponsible for Justin Trudeau to make such an accusation against a foreign government simply to shift attention from his gaffes. The Prime Minister must provide evidence for such an accusation.

While many are making jokes about the Prime Minister's disastrous trip to India, Canada’s Conservatives are worried Justin Trudeau has failed Canada on the international stage. He compromised our relationship with what will soon be the most populous country in the world by failing to commit to fight extremism in Canada.

Justin Trudeau must stop blaming others for his shocking lack of judgment. It’s time for the Prime Minister to show leadership and take responsibility for this serious breach in security and for hurting Canada’s relationship with India.

Sincerely,

Pierre Paul-Hus, MP

Conservative Shadow Minister for Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness
