Muslim Women’s Safety and Security Meeting

3-22-2018

In response to the Islamophobic attacks and killings of Muslims at a Mosque in Quebec last year January 29 2017, the RCMP across Canada reached out to Muslim Communities at the Mosque level to assure protection and security for our community.

One Issue that was evident in all Muslim community meetings was  most Islamophobia attacks on Muslim women in hijab occur in the public and on the transit.

During most of 2017, Most Mosque had increased patrols by the police to help prevent any further incidents.

As Muslim Canadian, availing of our rights in Canada it is of utmost importance to regularly engage law enforcement and government to be in regular communication to prevent future Islamophobic attacks.

The recent most workshop on Security for Muslim Women in the Public and on transit was presented by Jane Hanson of the RCMP and Wendy Hawthorne of the Transit Police.  All sisters in attendance learned a great deal and more workshops are planned in other Muslim communities in the lower mainland in the future.
