Following the final count from British Columbia’s 2024 provincial election, the BC NDP has secured a third term in office, with Premier David Eby receiving confirmation from Lieutenant Governor Janet Austin to form the next government. The results, confirmed by Elections BC on October 28, 2024, concluded with the BC NDP holding 47 seats, the Conservative Party 44 seats, and the BC Green Party 2 seats.

The Lieutenant Governor extended her gratitude to candidates, the departing Legislative Assembly members, and British Columbians who participated in the democratic process. She stated, “As Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia, I have spoken with Premier David Eby, who has advised me that he is prepared to continue as Premier of British Columbia… I extend my thanks to all candidates who ran and to Elections BC for their service.”

Premier Eby’s Commitment to Address Voters’ Priorities

"After a close and hard-fought campaign, it's now time to come together to deliver for people. Today, I met with Lieutenant Governor Janet Austin. She has asked me to form the next government. We will, and we will work hard every day to earn the trust you have placed in us.

Premier Eby acknowledged the narrow margin of victory as a signal from voters, promising that the BC NDP would address the issues critical to British Columbians. "It is an incredible honor and a huge responsibility," he said. “We are listening to the message voters sent with this close election and will tackle today’s toughest challenges right away.” He committed to reducing costs, increasing affordable housing, expanding healthcare, and ensuring the economy benefits everyone.

Eby emphasized the need for action across all sectors, from affordability to climate change, healthcare, and community safety. He assured voters that every elected NDP MLA is focused on delivering concrete results, saying, “British Columbians have asked us to work together to make life better for them. That is exactly what we intend to do.”
