UK PM Boris Johnson: Reiterates Imran Khans message, “No Military Solution in Afghanistan”

8-14-2021

On August 13,2021,  UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson spoke on the current situation in Afghanistan in a newly released video.

Johnson stated, “Everybody can see the Situation in Afghanistan has deteriorated, we could see this comings,  so in the next few days we will see UK Embassy staff will come back.”

Speaking about the translators and those Afghans who helped the UK mission he said, “We'll step up our efforts to bring back those Afghans who helped us, helped the UK National Forces throughout the last 20 years.”

So far about 2000 Afghan supporters has been brought to UK.

Johnson further expressed that he is extremely proud of what has being done over the last 20 years in Afghanistan.

Although the combat mission ended in 2014 he stated, “There isn’t a Military solution in Afghanistan.”

He acknowledged and thanked the efforts of the UK armed services and said, “there are millions of young women being educated in Afghanistan thanks to the efforts of the UK and British armed services.”

Boris Johnson is now echoing the same message that Pakistan’s Prime Minister has been saying for the last 20 years. Imran khan has consistently promoted peace and reconciliation process in Afghanistan.

Prime Minister Imran Khan played a significant role in arranging a meeting with top Taliban and the US leadership under President Donald Trump as part of his opinion, “there was no military solution to Afghanistan conflict.”

Washington credits Islamabad with bringing Afghan Taliban leaders to the table for talks with the U.S. that produced the historic February 2020 deal to set the stage for closing what has been the longest war in American history.

The future of the peace talks depends on the Afghan leadership.

Speaking earlier Khan said a political settlement was looking difficult under current conditions.

"I tried to persuade the Taliban, three to four months back when the Taliban senior leadership came here," Khan told foreign journalists at his home.

"The condition is that as long as Ashraf Ghani is there, we (Taliban) are not going to talk to the Afghan government," Khan said, quoting the Taliban leaders as telling him.

Negotiators started last September but have made no substantive progress.
