BC Premier David Eby celebrates Eid ul Fitr with the Muslim Community

Saturday April 29, 2023 PC Community Association hosted a grand event to Celebrate Eid ul Fitr with BC Premier David Eby. 

David Eby had earlier joined the Muslim community of Vancouver for Eid ul fitr Prayers at Canada Place hosted by Muslim Association Canada Vancouver Chapter. 

Over 600 people gathered for the grand Eid event which was filled with joy and gratitude for Allah’s Blessing for the completion of Ramadhan. 

The program emcee Br. Shahzad Mansoory invited Dr. Munibur Rahman to begin the program with the recitation of the Quran which was followed by the giving of Eid goody bags to kids under 12 years of age. 

After the national anthem of Canada, Khalid Chouhan President of Pakistani Canadian Community Association welcomed the guests including BC Premier David Eby, Mr. Janbaz Khan, Councillor General for Pakistan, Hon. Raj Chouhan, Speaker of Legislative Assembly, Hon. Harry Bains - Minister of Labor, Hon. Bruce Ralston - Minister of Forests, Hon. Rachna Singh - Minister of Education and Child Care, Hon. Jagrup Brar, Minister of Trade, MLA Garry Begg - Chief Whip of BC Legislative Assembly, MLA Aman Singh. Richmond- Queensborough, Mrs. Jinni Sims MLA Surrey-Panorama and City Councillors Linda Annis, Mike Bose, and Councillor Ahmad Yousuf from Maple Ridge, Dr. Ali Mihirig, Engineer Bearinger Sidhu, Engineer Khalid Zaka, Mr. Kulwant Dhesi, Pakistani Dr. Rifat Nagra, Dr. Saleem Nagra, Dr Muneeb u Rehman, Engineers, and Professionals and fellow Presidents of community associations.

Br Khalid Chouhan said, “The purpose of the event was to provide families an opportunity to meet each other at a single occasion and have a chance to observe and enjoy shared values, at the same time  to meet and greet our social and political leaders. 

We Aim to help inspire young people, foster a strong community environment and to develop an inclusive community culture.

We think, It is important to motivate community members to do their level best effort to achieve their goals. Therefor we acknowledge individual’s personal achievements by awarding them recognition. 

Our award-winning nominees have made tremendous efforts in their life, sometimes with no fanfare or recognition and have persevered through their hard work and dedication. We must recognize them so others will see them in that light as well. I am sure these individuals will serve as inspiration for others in years to come.”

Khalid Chouhan also thanked all the volunteers as well as the NRC members - Engr. Khalid Zaka and Mr. Salim Notary for their efforts in finalizing nominees through their professional and honest evaluation.

A special cake cutting ceremony was held after the awards ceremony. The cake was baked by Aatika Bhamji with the crescent and Canadian maple leaf to honor our shared values.

As the end the festival, entertainment was a part of the program. Some exciting live music entertainment was presented by a special performer Navin Jaan which was thoroughly enjoyed by guests.
