BC MUSLIM SCHOOL FUNDRAISER
6-17-2015
On Saturday June 13th, BC Muslim School held its fundraising dinner at the Bombay Banquet Hall in Surrey to raise much needed funds for purchasing the current property, which is being rented to accommodate the growing needs of Surrey’s Muslim Population.
Dr. Munir El-Kassim, of London, Ontario was the guest speaker. He highlighted the importance of establishing Muslim Schools and the long term benefits to the community overall, for raising children in an Islamic environment. Most importantly, why supporting such projects is an obligation upon each Muslim.
For more than twenty five years BC Muslim Schools, administered by BC Muslim Association, has been providing this valuable service to the Muslim Community of BC in producing well rounded individuals, many of them have now entered work force, and bring their children to the school, with concrete Islamic education.
The growth in population across all levels has always been a challenge for everyone, from federal government to municipal council. BCMA is no exception. It must face its own challenges proportionally while maintaining effective service. It is a fine balancing act, and it cannot perfected without the much needed financial support from the community.
Currently, the school is on a rental property which the association wishes to purchase thus the cost savings from the rent can actually be directed towards providing better services to the students or expanding the school to meet the ever growing needs of the community.
BCMA hopes to raise at least $500K to be able to apply towards the purchase the property. However, as expected raising such an amount is not an easy task, but the one must be achieved in order to establish Islamic institutions to provide basic fundamental Islamic education in an Islamic environment.
Approximately $70K was collected and commitment of Qard-Hasna (Interest Free Loans) by individuals to reach at least fifty percent of the target, at $250K.
We encourage all our readers that during this month of Ramadan please consider donating towards this noble cause by directing at least some of the donation to the Surrey Muslim School.
