Canex Building Supplies Ltd. donates $25 000 to SUMS Day Camp Adventures
7-15-2015
Surrey, BC - On July 9, 2015, Bruce Kehler, CEO of Canex Building Supplies Ltd., announced his donation of $25 000 to the SUMS Day Camp Adventures at the Surrey Urban Mission Society. These funds will allow the camp to continue this year. Canex Building Supplies Ltd. is a locally owned company based out of Chilliwack that specializes in building supplies for both commercial and residential building projects.
Bruce Kehler credits his new relationship with SUMS to Sikandar Hayat, a Director of Amazing Tutors Children’s Foundation, who introduced him to the Surrey Urban Mission Society, where he learned of the need for his donation. Sikandar Hayat and other volunteers at Amazing Tutors were present for Mr. Kehler’s announcement, with two of the young volunteers presenting him with a commemorative plaque celebrating his extensive community outreach. The campers that this donation will be affecting were present, along with volunteers from the Mission. Dignitaries, including Jinny Sims (MP), Jasbir Sandhu (MP), and several Surrey Councilors, including Mike Starchuck, Vera LeFranc, and Mary Martin, were in attendance. They thanked Bruce Kehler of Canex Building Supplies for his generous donation, and his aim to lead these children to a place of beauty.
This day camp targets children from economically disadvantaged families, and provides eight weeks of fun and educational events, with a focus on developing leadership skills.
