AlKauthar Vancouver’s upcoming course, The Final Rites
11-04-2015
From the moment we enter this world, our life is filled with endless possibilities but is also filled with uncertainty. However, from the second we are born, there is one universal certainty: the certainty that “Every soul will taste death” [Qur’an 3:185].
Death affects the rich and poor, black and white, even the best of mankind, the Prophet (SAW), who said on his deathbed “There is no deity worthy of worship besides Allah, verily the pangs of death are severe” [Bukhari].
As intimidating as it is, death is like an exam. There is no way to stall it, but it can be prepared for. Measures can be taken to pass this exam smoothly. Preparation can make death survivable not only for the ones dying, but also for the individuals losing their loved members to death. And the best of preparations is seeking knowledge, followed by its application.
Seeking knowledge, ilm, is often perceived to be difficult, but in reality, it is at our fingertips. In the Lower Mainland, AlKauthar Institute is just within our reach. AlKauthar Institute is a pioneering academic Islamic education provider, with dynamic and in-depth weekend courses designed to impart tertiary level, academic Islamic instruction to a diverse group of students.
AlKauthar Vancouver’s upcoming course, The Final Rites, will discuss the Fiqh of Janazah, Burial, and Inheritance. The Final Rites will be held at BCIT on November 14-15th, taught by Sheikh Bilal Ismail, insha Allah. The Final Rites will discuss all the intricate details related to the subject of death, from sickness, to death itself, to the janazah, burial, and inheritance of an individual after death. Coming out of this course, you will have a binder that summarizes the most important rules of janazah, burials and inheritance, including an understanding of related innovations to avoid; an in-depth understanding of the process and guidelines of writing wills and bequests; received practical demonstrations on washing and shrouding the body; and much more, insha Allah.
The topic of death should not be treated as an elephant in the room, because it is an occurrence we are all fated to at some point of our life. We must start nurturing and preparing this “elephant” for what is about to come, so that we are able to act in the best possible way, which is the way of the Qur’an and Sunnah. In fact, the Prophet (SAW) has told us to “Increase the mention of the destroyer of desires: death” [Tirmidhi].
