A community fundraising dinner in support of the Baitul Mukarram Islamic Society's Edmonds at Burnaby Mosque Project was held on January 24 at the Royal Palace Banquet Hall in Burnaby, British Columbia, drawing strong participation from the local Muslim community.
Approximately 200 community members, including men and women, attended the event. By the end of the evening, $72,000 had been raised toward the ongoing mosque project, marking another important step in the Society’s effort to secure a permanent place of worship and community space.
The program was facilitated by Imam Yahya Momla, with the keynote address and fundraising appeal delivered by Imam Ziad Delic. In his address, Imam Ziad reflected on Qur’anic teachings related to charity, collective responsibility, and the spiritual significance of supporting the construction of mosques, encouraging attendees to contribute according to their means.
A project update presentation was delivered by Abu Hafizullah, vice president BMIS, outlining the current status of the mosque initiative, progress made to date, and the financial commitments required to complete the land purchase. The session was moderated by Mohammad Yasin, who coordinated the flow of the program and assisted with the fundraising process. Remarks were also delivered by Imam Zahid, who emphasized unity and long-term community benefit.
According to organizers, the mosque project has several upcoming payment milestones that must be met to secure the land:
-
$250,000 due on March 15
-
$250,000 due on August 14
-
A final payment of $1,750,000 due by December 16, 2027
Organizers noted that while the funds raised at the dinner were encouraging, continued community support will be essential in meeting these obligations on time. Community members are being encouraged to contribute through donations and long-term pledges to help ensure the successful completion of the project.
The Baitul Mukarram Islamic Society Vancouver has described the mosque project as a long-term investment in faith, education, and community service, intended to serve future generations. Additional fundraising initiatives are expected in the coming months as the Society works toward securing the property and advancing the project.
