In a momentous occasion, the Muslim community of Chilliwack expressed their gratitude and joy as they prayed their first Jumma in their newly inaugurated Islamic center on Friday December 29th, 2023. The ceremony, graced by the presence of President of the BC Muslim Association, Br. Asad Gondal, along with key members including Br. Fadi Kanafai, Br. Basharat Sidhu, Br. Osama Ebesh, and the entire Chilliwack Muslim community, marked the culmination of a transformative journey.
President BCMA addressed the gathered community before the Jumma prayer, delivering a beautiful message centered on unity, faith, and shared community values. He highlighted the profound significance of the newly established masjid, which emerged from the transformation of a church. The building, once echoing with hymns, now resonates with the prayers and supplications of a diverse congregation, symbolizing the inclusivity and harmony defining the city.
As the community prepared to offer the first Jumma prayer in this sacred space, President BCMA expressed gratitude for the blessing and hoped the masjid would become a source of inspiration, a place of peace for hearts, and a sanctuary for the soul.
Drawing inspiration from the words of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), President BCMA emphasized the interconnectedness of believers, stating, "The believers in their mutual kindness, compassion, and sympathy are just like one body. When one part of the body suffers, the whole body feels pain." The message resonated as the community embarked on a new chapter together, carrying the spirit of love and understanding forward.
Acknowledgments were extended to various individuals, including the executive council of BCMA, Dr. Osama Ebesh for his long-term commitment, and generous donors who contributed significantly to the Chilliwack project. The successful event and dinner raised funds exceeding $100,000 for the Chilliwack Islamic Centre, showcasing the dedication and generosity of the community.
The Fundraising event on January 20th-2024 was attended by esteemed guests, including Mufti Mohamed Mouadh, Mufti Imam Yahya Momla, and their respective teams from Surrey Jamia Masjid and Burnaby Masjid. A special mention was made to welcome Sister Kara and her two sons, new members of the Chilliwack community.
Chairman Abdul Shakoor expressed gratitude to everyone involved and concluded with a heartfelt prayer, hoping that Allah continues to be with the community and bless them abundantly. The event marked a significant milestone in the Chilliwack Muslim community's journey, symbolizing unity, faith, and a shared commitment to building a stronger, interconnected future.
