Alberta Muslims have seen an uptick of Islamophobic violence over the last few years.
That’s why NCCM and Muslim community leaders in Alberta have been asking both the UCP and the NDP to commit to a provincial anti-Islamophobia strategy as a critical promise.
The National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM) welcomes the groundbreaking announcement made on Tuesday of this week by the United Conservative Party (UCP) regarding their anti-Islamophobia strategy, and today by the Alberta NDP.
This landmark initiative marks a crucial moment in the province's history, as it recognizes the pressing need to address and combat Islamophobia in Alberta.
The rise in Islamophobic incidents witnessed in Alberta and across Canada has been a cause of great concern for a number of years, we commend the UCP and the NDP for taking a stance and integrating an anti-Islamophobia strategy into their respective party platforms.
NCCM strongly believes that addressing Islamophobia requires collective efforts from all sectors of society, including political parties, governments, civil society organizations, and individuals.
NCCM is committed to working collaboratively with all parties and stakeholders to ensure the effective implementation of the anti-Islamophobia strategy. We believe that by joining forces, we can create a lasting impact and build a more inclusive and harmonious society that embraces the principles of diversity, equality, and respect.
